It finally got the point where I could manage with washing my hair only twice a week and be relatively normal. Some of you may have seen my brother’s graduation pictures on social media exactly 7 weeks after the salon visit. Being able to style my hair that way was a miracle in itself.
And the week leading up to Christmas, I was able to go a full week without washing my hair (you know you don’t wash afro hair everyday!) and not have any crazy itch episodes.
It’s been a long arduous journey and fight of faith. When people asked me how I was during that time, depending on who was asking, I either said I was okay or I was fighting for my health which I really was. I had to avoid any self-pity and GOD in HIS mercy stripped away any opportunities for pity parties from me by making the first 3 or 4 I told in the first few weeks find it funny which was quite annoying for me . . . lol.
Another tactic of the enemy was to try to steal my voice though a sore throat and really bad throaty and chesty cough that I couldn’t talk but I did as much as I could and listened to great christian songs humming to them and dancing instead.
I fought, I went through, I came out victorious, I have and I’m still growing from faith to faith. These are the lessons I learned in this season of my life.
1.) You need people to go through life and be victorious through every season. Find your company you can go to like the disciples did when they’d got into trouble with the Jewish temple rulers (Acts 4:23). Kris Vallotton of Bethel Church preaches “find your people“.
2.) Psalms 23:4 says “though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil for THOU art with me“. I heard Bill Johnson of Bethel Church preach once that there’s a dimension of GOD’s presence you can only see when you’re in the valley of the shadow of death.
Although I don’t want to go through this again nor even wish it on my enemies, I’m thankful GOD brought me through it as my faith and reliance on GOD’s WORD has grown to a more personal experience of GOD.
3.) The WORD of GOD is truly powerful but only to the extent I am willing to stick with it and stay on it till it gets into my heart, soul and mind, that I am convinced beyond all reasonable and unreasonable doubt that IT IS TRUE to what IT says (Ephesians 3:20-21; Hebrews 4:12). Those that wait on the LORD shall renew their strength (Isaiah 40:31).
4.) Surely there’s an end and thy expectation shall not be cut off (Proverbs 23:18). This too shall pass. Remember the Bible is full of “and it came to pass“. Our light afflictions which are but for a moment work for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory while we look not at things which are seen, for the things which are seen are temporary (2nd Corinthians 4:17-18). No matter the trial, remember GOD is with you when you walk through the fire and/or the flood (Isaiah 43:2-3).
Be encouraged! GOD has and will never leave you nor forsake you no matter the level of darkness surrounding you. Light and darkness are alike to HIM (Psalms 139:12).
